Beats Rowenta, Black & Decker, August 29, 2011 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Hamilton Beach 14875 1500-Watt Digital Iron with Backlit Display (Kitchen) We had a Rowenta for less than a year, and though it worked very well it began to leak out in big puddles that were seeping through the body of it, not coming out the ironing plate. Then I tried a Black & Decker D975 and it has no cover where the water gets poured in, so it drips water out if you tip it quickly or even at a normal speed. Plus, the B&D immediately spit a stain on my shirt even though it was a brand new iron.
This Hamilton Beach iron looked heavier and more solid, so I took a chance. It has more power, 1500 watts, than many (most) and IS heavier to hold, more like I'm used to from old fashioned irons. (To me it is not TOO heavy, just easier to balance.) The plate is smooth and shiny instead of teflon and seems to slide along fabric easier (but you need to avoid zippers or metal to avoid scratching it up, the directions warn). It has a digital temperature system with numbers from 1 to 9 for amount of heat, a picture graph showing how hot that setting is... Read more

While we have only had this Hamilton Beach for six weeks, the performance is great - lots and lots of steam when selected, no leaking, smooth sole plate. I took time to research consumer sites to determine which features suited our style of ironing, and this Hamilton Beach model was right for us. We are very pleased with this purchase and recommend it.

I purchased this Hamilton Beach Iron based on the great reviews it had already received thinking this would be my "back up" iron and I would purchase another Rowenta in a few months. I am pleased to admit this will not be my "back up" iron; the reviews were truthful and accurate. As much as I liked my Rowenta's I really do like this new iron. I have given it a workout since it arrived and was amazed by the features and the 1500 watts which does make difference. I was able to iron a number of items in different fabrics with just the dry iron and NO steam - that was refreshing and something I had not experienced with any prior iron. The digital feature for fabrics is wonderful and with two automatic shut off systems I don't have to worry if I get distracted while the iron is on.
