Black & Decker Applica D1600 Digital Advantage Iron Reviews
3 of 3 people found the following review helpful Junk--- stay away!, February 8, 2010 By This review is from: Black & Decker Applica D1600 Digital Advantage Iron (Kitchen) I bought this iron-- worked pretty well for a very short time. The temperature doesn't really seem hot enough though. I had to used the highest setting all the time. After just a few months (and I don't iron much either), it started beeping constantly and displaying an error message every time it was plugged in. So, I contacted Black & Decker-- was instructed to cut off the cord, mail it to them and include $7.50 (which seems ridiculous to me-- usually if an item malfunctions during the warranty period, the company pays all the shipping) and they would mail me a new iron. I decided to give it one more try-- hoping for better service this time. Well, again, after just a few (3) months, the same thing happened yesterday. I intend to voice my complaints-- and buy another iron-- this time NOT a Black & Decker. Very frustrating!
2 of 2 people found the following review helpful If only the Auto Off would behave, February 1, 2009 I purchased the Black and Decker Digital Advantage D1650 when I was searching for the D2030 recommended by Consumer Reports. For the most part, I was happy with the D1650. I have owned several expensive Rowenta models which leaked terribly. The D1650 gave me the heft and comfort of the more expensive irons without the leakage. Unfortunately, the auto off function seems to have a mind of its own. If an ironing session lasts more than an hour, there is no way to stop the iron from turning itself off. I have tried unplugging the iron for several minutes and turning it back on, but after about 3 minutes of ironing, the iron shuts itself off again. There is no way to keep it on. This is not a function of age, the iron has always done this. I have owned this iron about 8 months. I am shopping now for a replacement.
1 of 1 people found the following review helpful Think twice before buying this model....., July 31, 2009 By India Russell (El Paso, Texas) - See all my reviews This review is from: Black & Decker Applica D1600 Digital Advantage Iron (Kitchen) Bought this iron a little over a year ago. The "automatic off" feature means the iron turns off after heating up and won't turn on again until I turn it off and turn it on again. There is clearly a bug in the system. My advice --- don't buy this iron. Of course, Black & Decker will replace my iron if I send them the plug and two inches of the cord AND a check for $7.50. It's not clear to me why I should pay to replace the shoddy merchandise they sold me! I will replace this iron with a different brand --- and I'll research irons on this website to find one that is highly recommended. Black and Decker has certainly lost my confidence in the quality of their products.
